Achieving a yet another landmark in its blooming tourism industry, Sri Lanka won the “Best destination off the beaten track” award at the Conde Nast Traveller Middle East Readers’ Choice Awards held yesterday on 14 November 2016 at the Creek Ballroom of the Park Hyatt Hotel Dubai. On behalf of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Consul General for Dubai and Northern Emirates Mr. Charitha Yattogoda accepted the plaque from the organisers of the event.
Sri Lanka out performed two other destinations (i.e. New Zealand and Vietnam) to acquire the above title, which is awarded based on the votes of the readers of the Conde Nast Traveller Middle East Magazine, which covers a wider cross-section of the tourism sector including the favourite travel experiences, from destinations and hotels, to airlines and tour operators.
This year, the award ceremony focused on the future of luxury travel, which includes a more experiential, authentic and sometimes off-the-beaten-path approach to travel, in which, Sri Lanka was awarded under the “off-the-beaten track” category.
In addition to Sri Lanka, USA and the Maldives were awarded under different categories and leading airlines and hotels including Emirates Airlines, Singapore Airlines along with Dusit Thani, Atlantis & the Palm hotels/resports etc were awarded at the ceremony.
Conde Nast Traveller Middle East Readers’ Choice award is one of the premier award ceremonies held in the GCC region on annual basis, during which, the top rated countries, airlines, hotels and tour operators are awarded.
