EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT (NMRP)

EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT (NMRP)

An Emergency Travel Document may be issued to enable a Sri Lankan national to return to Sri Lanka in case of an emergency in the following circumstances.

  • If the original Passport is lost
  • If the original Passport is expired

The applicants cannot travel to any other countries using this NMRPs. Validity of an NMRP is 3 months. The applicant shall ensure to return to Sri Lanka within this period. NMRP cannot extend beyond the validity.  

Temporary Travel Documents  will be issued only after obtaining the approval of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo and therefore, it will take a few days to issue.

  1. Letter requesting an Emergency Passport
  2. Duly filled application [Download Application Form “A”]
  3. Three recent coloured photographs of the applicant
    • Photograph taken within 2 weeks
    • Photograph background colour: White
    • Size: 3.5cm x 4.5cm
    • Ears, forehead and shape of the face should be clearly visible without makeup and other effects. Photographs that were taken with spectacles and vermilion dots (“Mottu”) on forehead will not be accepted.
  4. A copy of the current Passport (Expired Passport/lost Passport)
  5. A copy of the current visa
  6. A copy of Sri Lankan ID card/ Sri Lankan original Sinhala or Tamil Birth certificate/Driving licence. (Translated Birth certificates are not considered as original)
  7. If the Passport is lost, the following documents should also be produced.
    • Police report regarding lost passport
    • Legal English translation of the Police report (only if the report is in Arabic language)
    • Duly filled Form “B” and Form “C”
  8. A confirmed flight ticket (It is recommended setting the travel date at least 10 days from the date of application submission enabling the applicant to obtain necessary visa cancellation/ UAE outpass)

For children (age below 16) – in addition to the documents mentioned above, the following is also required

  1. Consent letter of the parents [Download Consent Letter]
  2. Original Passports of both parents
  3. Copies of the Original Passports of the parents
    • A photocopy of the Data Page of the current Passport (Page No. 2 & 3).
    • A photocopy of the Observation and Alteration page of the current Passport (Page No. 4 & 5).
  4. For a newborn, the Birth certificate issued in the UAE – the English version of the birth certificate must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE
  5. For other children, Sri Lankan Consular Birth Certificate of the child and a copy – Original document is required. Translations or photocopies will not be accepted.

 

Note:

  • Please also note that if the current passport is lost, the UAE visa may need to be cancelled in order to obtain an Exit Permit / Outpass from UAE immigration authorities.
  • Child must be accompanied by both the parents when submitting the applications
  • For child’s NMRP applications, the child’s name/child’s signature (which may be entered by the parents) must be provided in the spaces designated for signatures.
  • Third-party collection is not permitted. Temporaty passports will only be handed over directly to the applicant after identity verification.
  • For minors (children under 16 years), one parent may collect the temporary passport on behalf of the child. However, if only one parent is present, the written consent of the other parent is mandatory for the collection.
  • The Consular Officer reserves the right to reject any photograph that does not meet the required specifications, even if the photographs were taken within the prescribed timeframe.
  • NMRP  – AED 280.00
  • NMRP if applied with a Passport – AED 185.00

You can do the payments in Cash or Credit/Debit Cards. (An administrative fee will be charged by the bank for card payments)

Within 3- 5 working days

  1. Application should be filled in English, preferably in BLOCK  letters
  2. Write one letter in each box. Leave one box blank between two names.
  3. Three photographs should be furnished as specified in the application.
  4. Place the signatures in both cages, without touching the lines.
  5. Mention your residential address in UAE including the Emirate.
  6. Carefully read the declaration and signature should be placed after having read understood the declaration.

The following acts committed to obtain a passport are offences under Act No 20 of 1948 amended by Act No. 16 of 1955, Act No. 68 of 1961, Act No. 16 of 1993, Act No. 42 of 1998, Act No. 31 of 2006 and Act No. 07 of 2015.

  • Providing false information
  • producing fraud or false documents
  • applying for another passport whist having a valid passport
  • Use of a passport of some other person
  • Changing the passport fraudulently
  • Obtaining a passport producing the documents of some other person

You can submit the application to the Consular Division of the Consulate General by hand.

The Consular Division is open from Monday to Friday (8.30 am to 1.00 pm).

Applicant, himself should visit the Consulate General to collect the NMRP when ready.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE APPLICANT SHOULD PHYSICALLY BE PRESENT TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION AND FOR COLLECTION AS WELL.
