President Maithripala Sirisena extended an open invitation to academics and intellectuals to come forward to find solutions to the issues faced by the country to create a better future generations.

President was addressing the Alumni Awards Ceremony of University of Sri Jayewardenepura held at the Water’s Edge Battaramulla, yesterday (8th Aug.).

Recallinga statement made by the American humanitarian leader,Martin Luther King that the main obstacle to progress of the human society is the silence of academics and intellectuals, and the racious noise of the senseless people, he added this statement is now very familiar to the country compared to the past.

He emphasized the responsibility vested with the intellectuals in universities and said;“the government expectstheassistancefrom them to solve the matters pertaining to the university education field, and to produce the required scholars for the country.”According to him, the lack of human resources also has become one of the serious issues that we have to address.

Ven. EllawalaMedhananda Thero, Ven. Egodamulle Amaramoli Nayaka Thero, Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thero, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, and 47 alumni of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura were awarded by the President.
