Right to Information Commission, which will be appointed soon is an independent body and will not be allowed to be used as a cats-paw of the Media Ministry, confirmed Deputy Minister of Mass Media Karunarathna Paranawithana.

Joining the debate on RTI Bill yesterday (24th June) at Parliament he pointed out the important message the major political parties have shown by joining hands to develop the nation.

“RTI is not an instrument used to supress media. But media has a responsibility to provide actual facts and the truth to its readers, viewers, and the listeners,” said the Deputy Minister who said the appointment of RTI Commission is a responsibility of President.
