President Maithripala Sirisena presented the letters of appointment to 50 retired war heroes for the posts of Technical Officers yesterday (Oct. 11) at the Presidential Secretariat.

This was done under the national project, initiated according to a concept of the President, with the objective of utilizing the war heroes as a human resource for the national development.

This project aims to make use of the war heroes after retirement to the national development, and enhance their welfare through the program.

The President pointed out that compared to the other officials in the government service the war heroes are getting retired in an early age when they can offer further serve with their knowledge and experience for the benefit of the country.

“Though some groups make various complaints stating that the government is not treating the war heroes well, the current government is acting for their welfare unlike any former government. The government is committed to protect their dignity”, the President said.

“This will not affect the new recruitments for the government service. We will offer the opportunities to the educated young generation as usual”, he stated.

The number of retired war heroes who are still suitable for a contribution for the national development of the country, is about 113,598.

A welfare section for retired war heroes has been formed to be operated under the direction of an appointed director. This will be operative under the Ministry of Defense.

Minister Wajira Abeywardena, Secretary to the President P. B. Abeykoon and the Commanders of Tri-Forces also participated.
