“Siyasetha Sevena’ housing scheme built at Maligawatte bringing shelter for dwellers with less facilities in the Colombo Municipal Council area was opened by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (5th Aug.).
The housing scheme, built at a cost of Rs. 1330 millions consists of 266 housing units, each valued at Rs. 5 million. A house which is 450 square feet consists of two bed rooms, a verandah, a kitchen and a balcony. Required sanitary and infrastructure facilities have also been provided.
Residence of Tower Flats in Maligawatta, Velupullai Watta in Rajagiriya and Abeysingharama Road in Rajagiriya are the beneficiaries of this scheme, which was implemented under the ‘Divisaru Puravara’ program by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.
The government under the ‘Divisaru Puravara’ program it is expected to build 25, 000 housing units by 2020. Out of them construction work on 19,072 housing units have commenced with an investment of Rs. 100 billion.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister, Field Martial Sarath Fonseka, Minister Faizer Mustafa, Deputy Ministers Eran Wickramarathne, and Lasantha Alagiyawanna also participated.
