Priyanee Wijesekera, Ambassador Designate of Sri Lanka to the Czech Republic presented Credential to the President Miloz Ziman on 23rd August, 2016 at the office of the President in the Prague Castle.
Following the Credential Ceremony she met the President, Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of the Department of South Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chief of Protocol of the President Office and the Deputy Head of the Office of the President at the Brozik Room.
At the Discussion which followed the President wanted his greetings conveyed to Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka and indicated that he hopes to visit Sri Lanka in the latter part of 2017 with a large business delegation to promote economic diplomacy. Ambassador Wijesekera acknowledged with appreciation the assistance given by the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka in the past.
The President Miloz Ziman also proposed that Sri Lanka should establish a Embassy in Prague particularly as there is much interest among Czech tourists in visiting Sri Lanka.
The Director of the Political Department of the Foreign Ministry mentioned that Sri Lanka does not at present have Hony. Consul in Prague and urged that early steps be taken to appoint one.
The President Ziman also assured the Ambassador that the Czech Republic is favorable towards the European Union restoring the GSP concession to Sri Lanka. He also indicated interest in promoting cultural ties between the two countries particularly in the study of Buddhism.
