The motorcycle gang called ‘Aava’ functioning in North is not operated by military forces and further investigations are carried out in that regard, said State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijayawardhane.

He said that it was just a motorcycle gang, which is harassing the ordinary people of the area for ransom. “It is not a group operated by Army. Army has no reason to operate such a group”, he said.

State Minister made these remarks today at the Parliament answering a question raised by JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake regarding the ‘Aava’ group functioning in the North.

Minister Further added, “One of the three arrested members of this ‘Aava’ group is a former military person. But, he is not in the service now. He has been working for Army for some time and now the investigations are going on.”
