Govt. has no plans to sell state enterprises – President

/, Sri Lanka/Govt. has no plans to sell state enterprises – President

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday assured that under his government no state owned enterprise will be privatized.

“Though various ideas were expressed that the government is planning to sell the state institutions to the private sector, it is not the policy of my government to do so”, he emphasized.

Although such a policy is being followed, necessary decisions would be taken with the assistance of the private sector to turn around loss-making state enterprises, according to him.

President made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the Jaya Container Terminal at the Port of Colombo held yesterday (10th Aug.) parallel to the 37th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Reconstructed CFS-1 warehouse was also opened by President.

He further added that the Port of Colombo, which is not a loss- incurring institution, has to bear a huge burden due to the loans taken for Hambantota Harbor. “Though the loan burden of Rs. 90 billion is an obstacle for the development of the country we will develop the country by enhancing the economic growth through local industries and exports” he said.
A donation of Rs 2.5 million was also donated to the fund for kidney patients.
