55 Sri Lankan exporters covering food and beverages sectors participated in ‘Gulfood’, the world’s largest annual food and beverage trade exhibition, which was held from 16 -20 February 2020 in Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, UAE.
Sri Lanka Tea Board and Sri Lanka Export Development Board organized two Sri Lanka pavilions in the exhibition with the participation of 18 Tea exporting companies and 25 food items exporting companies respectively. Apart from the exhibitors in the Sri Lanka pavilions, a number of major Sri Lankan food and beverages exporting companies also participated by organizing their individual pavilions at the exhibition with an aim to promote their products in the global market.
Since its launch in 1987, this year ’Gulfood’ celebrated its 25th edition of the exhibition in 2020. This international exhibition is considered as the world’s largest annual food, beverage and hospitality exhibition which attracts F&B professionals and leading companies from more than 180 countries. This year exhibition area covered over 120,000sqm, including 3 new Halls and 2 purpose built temporary structures.
Gulfood 2019 edition attracted a record number of over 98500 visitors from all over the world and the show was attended by over 5000 companies from over 185 different countries as exhibitors. Being a trading hub in the region, the UAE companies involved in importing a big amount of food product from all over the world and they also engaged heavily in re-exporting food products to Gulf Cooperative Council countries, the Indian subcontinent and Eastern Africa. The most important feature of Gulfood is that it attracts buyers not only from the Gulf region but from all over the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA). This trade exhibition which is consisted of several major product segments, i.e. Beverages, dairy, fats and oils, health, wellness, Free-from, meat and poultry, power brands, pulses, grains and cereals, halal world food and world food, creates unique business opportunities for the exhibitors.
The Sri Lankan companies participated in Gulfood 2020 covered a range of products including food preparations, beverages, spices and wellness products among others. The organization of Sri Lanka participation at Gulfood pave the way to Sri Lankan companies to establish new business contacts and consolidate existing business contacts while a number of companies managed to secure solid export orders for their products from the buyers in the region and also other participating countries.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai & Northern Emirates facilitated Sri Lanka’s participation at the Gulfood 2020 in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board and Sri Lanka Tea Board.
