Achieving yet another milestone on the service provided to the General Public, the website of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and Northern Emirates won the “Best Website or Microsite” under the category of “Government Institutions and NGO sector” at the SLT Zero One (01) Awards Night for Digital Excellence held on 22 nd June 2017 at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel Colombo. This event was the first of its kind to have organized by the Sri Lanka Telecom, the National Telecom provider of Sri Lanka, in recognition of the achievements by institutions, individual and brands for leveraging digital technologies. On behalf of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accepted the award at the ceremony.

The development of the website of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and the Northern Emirates derives from the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attach more importance on the public and commercial diplomacy with a view to offering a better service for large number of Sri Lankans (approximately over 200,000) and foreign nationals those who wish to visit Sri Lanka on business/tourism purposes, living under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General,and also to ameliorate the matters on foreign employment, trade & investment, tourism & etc, including all details on the subject matters coming under the purview of the Consulate General comprehensively. In spite of the fact that the website was operational since 2016, it was officially launched on 5 th February 2017 at the National Day reception held in Dubai, with the participation of over 350 foreign and Sri Lankan guests, representing over 50 countries.
Currently, a large number of local and foreign nationals are visiting the website of the Consulate General to obtain their required services and express their entire satisfaction of the comprehensive nature of the website which includes downloadable consular related applications/details that enable those users to efficiently attend to their matters without physically visiting the Consulate General.
It is noted that around 5,000 users visit this website on each month as per the web reports. Additionally, the Consulate General is receiving a number of calls, emails, and comments from the users conveying their entire satisfaction about the contents of the website and the convenience of using it. With the view to improve its services in the coming year, the Consulate General has taken steps to register all the Sri Lankan citizens based in Dubai and the Northern Emirates through its website. Moreover, the website will also be translated into both Sinhala and Tamil languages soon in line with the national reconciliation policy of the Government of Sri Lanka.
