/, Sri Lanka/Port City Project will not be halted –Minister Ranawaka

Government has no special reasonto halt the Colombo Port City Project and will go ahead with it, said the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Referring to a protest conducted by a group of fishermen in Negombo yesterday against the recommencement of the project, the minister added that any decision regarding the project would be taken on a scientific basis, but not on rumours or slogans.

Minister was addressing media yesterday at the Department of Government Information.

The amended Port City Project is to be carried out under a tripartite agreement between the Megapolis Ministry, UDA, and China Harbour Engineering Company. “Therefore, our ministry isvery considerate regarding the part of the CHEC while our part is done properly”, he added.

Minister further added that if the sand mining for the project from the sea makes any influence to the fish harvest of the fisheries community in those areas, they will be compensated. Required money have already been allocated for that purpose.
