President Maithripala Sirisena requested the students of the University of Jaffna to resume their studies without any fear or suspicion as the security and safety have been assured.
Vice Chancellor of the University Vasanthi Arsarathnam, the academic staff and, a group of parents of the students of the University of Jaffna met the President at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (4th Aug.).
According to the Vice Chancellor, they have taken necessary action to ensure that such incidents don’t occur in the university in the future.
President added that the government was fully responsible for the security and safety of the students and he had given instructions to the Police and other security sections to act sensitively in such occasions.
During this meeting it was decided to appoint a committee consisting of the students and the staff of the university to ensure safety of the students within the university.
Minister of Higher Education Lakshaman Kiriella, State Minister Mohan Lal Grero, Governor of the Northern Province Reginald Coorey, and the President of the University Grant Commission participated.
