In line with the Government of Sri Lanka’s commitment to the multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic society, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka organized an Iftar party on 01st June 2017 in association with the Old Boys’ Association of Zahira College – Colombo, at the premises of the Consulate General Office in Dubai.
In the area usually the ‘Daham Pasala’ is being held on Fridays in the Consulate General, under the decorations made of Buddhist flags, all the religious leaders representing the four main religions of Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity in Sri Lanka invoked blessings for Sri Lanka and the people gathered at the event, prior to the Iftar party.
Speaking at the event, all religious leaders highlighted the importance of organizing an event in such nature, exclusively aimed at enhancing the cooperation and unity among all religions and driving towards the common goal of development by adhering to the good principles taught by all religions.
More than 200 people representing both formal and informal Associations based in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, comprising of all the religions and ethnic groups o0f Sri Lanka based in the UAE, participated at the event. Following the Iftar, the attendees were served a sumptuous dinner buffet which included some special Sri Lankan food and Ceylon tea.
The Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Charitha Yattogoda highlighted the importance of Ramadan from the perspective of the Muslim Community speaking at the event and mentioned such unique gathering of Iftar demonstrates multi-religious and ethnic harmony that has been existing among the Sri Lankan community living in the UAE.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the UAE H.E. Mr. S.J. Mohideen attended the event as the Chief Guest. Additionally, all the staff members of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, the diplomatic staff and the Muslim members of the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi took part in the event.
