Purchasing of paddy for the Yala season 2016 was inaugurated yesterday (22nd Aug.) at the Warawewa paddy warehouse in Rajanganaya with the participation of the Minister of Rural Economy P. Harison.
One kilo of Nadu rice is purchased at Rs.38.00, Samba rice at Rs.41.00, and Keeri Samba rice at Rs.50.00. Nearly 120,000 metric tons will be purchased.
According to the Minister, the government will spend Rs.4,600 million for the paddy purchasing. The initiative will be conducted at nearly 300 warehouses in Ampara, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Hambantota districts.
