It is the policy of the government to empower the journalist with modern technology instead of the pen and the paper used by them, emphasized Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake.

He made these remarks addressing media personnel yesterday at the Parliamentary premises participating to award tab computers for Parliamentary journalists.

“The Parliamentary journalists, who cover the unique institution of the country, were given priority in this program and discussions are in progress now to implement it further targeting other journalists”, he added.

According to the minister, the government’s attention has also been focused on an act to incorporate the minimum wages and the welfare of the journalists.

Minister also expressed his gratitude to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and the Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando.
