Media playing the role of a watchdog for the betterment of the country and society should also report the wrong doings of politicians, Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Media Gayantha Karunathilake said.

He made these remarks addressing the certificate awarding ceremony of the Sri Lanka Media Training Institute (SLMTI) held yesterday (14th June) at the Department of Government Information Auditorium.

He said that the media has now become the pioneer of the society and therefore it is vested with a huge responsibility to report true and credible information and not to arouse the sensitivity of the public. According to Minister, the journalists, usually transact and associate people in day today life, will be able to highlight the public desire.

Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Karunarathne Paranawithana, Secretary to the Ministry Nimal Bopage, Director General of the Department of Government Information Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya, and the Chairman of the SLMTI Dr. Dharmasena Pathiraja were also present.
