Sri Lanka Army has commenced the reconstruction of damaged houses, removal of debris of the Kosgama fire, cleaning of the affected water resources and to estimate the damage on civil property on Tuesday (June 07), Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said.

Troops of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES), Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy, Police and Special Task Force (STF) began the reconstruction process. Accordingly, renovation work of the first two houses started on Tuesday.

Two teams of the army were deployed to estimate the damage on houses and vehicles separately. Plans have been made to complete the preliminary estimate-taking within the next three days as the occupants of those houses have begun to return to their original places of residence after the Security Forces cleared the areas, Brigadier said.

Meanwhile Navy troops have started the cleaning process of the water resources in the affected areas. Army also provided cooked food to the displaced people.
