Epidemiology Unit (EU) said that 18,421 dengue cases were reported from beginning of January to the end of the first week of June. Last month 1,512 cases were reported despite the floods and the onset of the South Western Monsoons.

The total number of cases reported in the country within the first five months of last year was over 14,950 while in the numbers stood at 13,243 in 2014.

Giving a breakdown for this year, the EU said the highest, 5,974 dengue cases was reported from the Colombo District, while, 1,983 and 1,219 cases were reported from the Gampaha and Kalutara Districts respectively. Over 1,250 cases were reported from Jaffna.

Kandy (950), Kurunegala (822), Puttalam (562), Ratnapura (974) Kegalle (622) and Galle (781), Colombo District (4272), Gampaha (2021) , Kalutara (720), Kandy(638), Jaffna(1059), Baticaloa (1155), Kurunegala(750), Ratnapura(572), Kegalle(291), Puttalam (427) dengue cases were reported during the first five months of last year.
