Sri Lanka pays tribute to Covid 19 health frontliners in Dubai with “Ceylon Tea”

Hon. Consul General Nalinda Wijerathna met with His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on 02nd November 2020 to extend appreciation to the invaluable service rendered by the UAE Health Authorities to the Sri Lankan Community living in the United Arab emirates in this pandemic situation. This visit was followed by two separate visits to the Dubai Hospital and the Rashid Hospital, two hospitals under the DHA, where the Sri Lankan delegation met with the CEOs of the hospitals to pay tribute to the medical professionals and frontline health staff for their vital service towards the wellbeing of Sri Lankan expatriates in the UAE during this unprecedented pandemic. The Consul General was accompanied by Ms. Premala Srikantha, Minister (Tea Promotion) for MENA Region, and Ms. Subhashini Silva Head of Chancery of the Consulate General Office in these events.

The Sri Lanka Tea Board and leading Sri Lankan Tea exporting companies, namely, Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company, Jafferjee Brothers, Mahmood Tea International (Pvt) Ltd, Bagawantalawa Tea Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd, and Watawala Tea Ceylon Ltd contributed generously towards this initiative.

Symbolic packages of assortment of Ceylon Teas and Ceylon Tea branded face masks were gifted to His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Dr. Fahad Ba Saleeb, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rashid Hospital and Dr. Maryam Al Rayes , the Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Hospital while a donation of Ceylon Tea and Ceylon Tea dyed Face Masks were handed over to the management for distribution among the officials, medical and health care staff of the respective institutions.

During the discussions, the Consul General further extended his gratitude and appreciation to the UAE health authorities for providing free PCR testing facilities for the passengers of repatriation flights organized by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General Office in Dubai.
