President Maithripala Sirisena has invited the private sector to join the Government to support the national goal of energy sufficiency within the next 10 years.

The President addressing a special discussion at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (23rd June) instructed the officials to explore the possibilities to continue expanding renewable energy, especially the wind power with private sector assistance. During the meeting President examined the proposed expansion plan of the Victoria Power Station.

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister Malik Samarawickrama, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy Dr. Suren Batagoda, representatives from Ceylon Electricity Board, BOI and Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, and some private sector investors participated the meeting.
