Dengue is on the rise in 42 MOH divisions in the country with 19,000 dengue cases and 24 deaths reported from all parts of the country this year, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said yesterday addressing media.
According to Dr. Mahipala an effective dengue control programme was launched yesterday. The prevention program will conclude today covering the 42 MOH divisions with high risk. He said 526 teams will be deployed to control dengue.
"Legal action will be taken against mosquito breeders. Members of armed forces, health officials will be included in every team," Dr. Mahipala said. He said 50 fogging machines and 100 fogging labourers have been deployed to continue fogging in all high risk urban areas.
More nurses have been deployed at Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila) and IDH to treat dengue patients, Dr. Mahipala said.
